History 

RIAS was launched in 1992 under the name Insurance Advisory Service (IAS). As times have changed, so have we, and in 2004 we re-launched our brand as RIAS to reflect more accurately our dynamism, mission and values. We also added the strap-line "Insurance for the over 50s" to clearly reflect our proposition.

Today we are one of the largest providers of general insurance to the over 50s in the UK; with more than 970,000 customers and a track record of over 23% compound annual growth in profits and approximately 1,200 employees.

We are part of Fortis, a leading provider of award-winning personal and commercial lines insurance solutions in the UK and the 2007 British Insurance Awards ‘General Insurer of the Year’. Established as a top two home insurance provider for the over 50s*, we act as an intermediary providing tailored products and services including home, motor, travel, caravan and pet insurance. In January 2005 we became fully regulated by the FSA.

Every day we move closer to our goal of becoming first choice for private motor and household insurance for the over 50s. In 2007 we won the annual Personal Lines Broker of the year award at the prestigious Insurance Times Awards.

Our list of affinity partners is well established and includes many famous high street retailers, charities and newspaper and publishing groups.

The RIAS head office is in Bournemouth Dorset with a main office also in Belfast. We have a staff incentive/motivation programme, which includes Employee of the Month awards, staff social events and an annual awards program. There are also many valuable incentives, particularly for the call centres based on sales targets.
