Excess Protection

The Excess Protection Policy provides insurance to cover reimbursement, up to £300, for your Excess under your Motor Car Insurance Policy following the successful settlement of a claim in respect of malicious or accidental damage, fire, theft or attempted theft during the period of insurance, where no recovery can be made from a Third Party.

The Excess Protection Cover under this policy is administered by Albany Assistance Ltd and is underwritten by IGI Insurance Company Ltd.

All claims must be reported within 30 days of the date the claim was settled by your Motor Car Insurance Company

This cover is available for only £27.00 per year.

Legal Expenses Cover

If you are involved in a motor accident that was not your fault, need legal advice or need help with motoring emergencies, our Legal Expenses Cover will provide you with up to £100,000 of cover (for all claims that arise from the same insured incident).

Benefits include:

  • Cover for the hire of a replacement vehicle if yours cannot be driven after a collision
  • Cover if you or your passengers have suffered an injury
  • Cover if you have incurred losses you are not insured for

 
All claims must be reported within 180 days of the insured incident.  Full details and exclusions can be found in the policy booklet.  The cover is administered by MotorPlus Limited (trading as ULR) on behalf of Groupama Insurance Company Limited.

Legal Protection is available for £24.00 per year.

  • 24-hour claims service Our claims lines are open all day every day, 365 days of the year. Our friendly operators will be there to assist and advise you and help you process your claim speedily. Once you’ve signed up for cover, you’ll receive the numbers you need in the event of theft or accident
  • Windscreen cover If your windscreen is broken, you can arrange a replacement using our specialist repairers (provided you’ve taken out comprehensive car insurance cover)
  • Medical Expenses If you, or any of your passengers, are injured in an accident involving the car, we will pay towards Medical Expenses for each person (limits apply)
  • Personal belongings (subject to status) We cover personal effects in the car up to £100 (or the amount specified in your policy book) if lost or damaged by accident, fire or theft
  • Free courtesy car With comprehensive cover, while your car is being repaired by the approved repairer, a courtesy car will be supplied for your convenience
  • Fast repair service We lose no time in getting your car repaired by an approved garage closest to your home address. Payment is normally made direct to the approved garage by us
  • Personal Accident Cover If you or one of your passengers are injured or killed in an accident where you are at fault, a lump sum will be paid for specific injuries or death (age limitations apply)

Third Party Only: This provides the driver with cover for damage caused by their vehicle to another person or their property.

Third Party, Fire & Theft: This provides the driver with cover for damage caused by their vehicle to another person or their property as well as cover for fire, theft or attempted theft of the vehicle.

Comprehensive: This provides cover for third party, fire, theft and accidental damage to the insured vehicle. This enables the policyholder to claim for almost any damage to the vehicle.

Prize draw terms & conditions

  2. Open to residents of the United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland) who are aged 50 years or over. Those given a motor insurance quotation within the period 1st January 2010 to the closing date 31st December 2010 inclusive will be entered into the prize draw. Quotations will only be provided within 60 days of the policy start date. No purchase necessary.
  3. The prize draw will take place on 14th January 2011. The first name drawn will win a car. The car will be as specified on this page or an alternative model of the same value. RIAS reserve the right to offer a similar model.
  4. If you purchase the policy within a week of receiving the quote you will receive a second entry into the draw.
  5. The winner may choose to take a cash alternative of £10,000 instead of the car.
  6. The winner will be notified by post within 14 working days of the draw date and must claim the prize or cash alternative by 11th February 2011. The result will be made available on the RIAS PLC website after the closing date.
  7. The winner will be responsible for licensing and insuring the vehicle prior to collection/delivery.
  8. RIAS PLC's decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  9. RIAS PLC accepts no liability for any loss or damage that may occur in relation to acceptance of this prize.
