Amending your policy with us

It’s easy to make an amendment to your RIAS insurance policy. Whether it’s a simple change of address, adding another policy holder or adding extra items to your policy.

You can make amends to your policy online 24/7 with no admin charges. Alternatively you can call or email us using the contact details below:

Before you get in touch

Please make sure you have at least three of the following to hand when making amendments to your policy over the phone:

  • Policy number
  • First line of your address & post code
  • Your payment method (direct debit, debit card, credit card etc.)
  • For home insurance customers – the number of bedrooms in your home
  • For car insurance customers – your car registration details

If you amend your policy, we’ll confirm the changes and send you your new documentation by post. There may be a £25 administration fee for policy amendments. For full details, please refer to your policy booklet.

Amending your policy online

New customers who were quoted online or through a price comparison site from 29th July 2014 (car customers) and 19th November (home customers) can now make amends to their policy online.

Cancelling a new policy

If you have taken out a new policy with us you can cancel it within 14 days of the policy start date, or within 14 days of receiving your policy (whichever is later). To cancel, call us on 0345 650 0345 or get in touch with our customer service team at:

Cancellation can take effect either immediately or from a future date, but can’t be backdated. If it hasn’t yet started, we will refund any pre-paid premiums.

If it has started and you do not make a claim, we will refund any premiums already paid minus a charge for the period you have been insured and an administration charge of £15.

Cancelling after 14 days

If you want to cancel your policy that has been in effect for over 14 days, it’s important for you to contact us on 0345 650 0345.

You can cancel immediately, or for a later date but you can’t backdate this. You must contact us directly to cancel a policy, it is not enough simply for you to cancel your direct debit instruction as this does not have the effect of ending your policy. If you have made no claims during the current period of insurance, RIAS (on behalf of your insurer) will refund a percentage of the premium in proportion to the period of insurance left unused, minus a cancellation fee of £35.

RIAS, or anyone they authorise, can cancel this policy for any reason by sending you seven days written notice by recorded delivery to the address held for you. If the policy is cancelled, it does not affect any rights or claims arising before it is cancelled.
