Launching The ‘Grandparent Of The Year’ Awards 2011 with Yours Magazine

We are proud to announce that we are partnering with Yours magazine to launch our first ever ‘Grandparent of the Year’ Awards. The awards celebrate the value of grandmothers and grandfathers to UK families and recognise the important role they play, offering wisdom, experience, support and love.
If you know someone who deserves to be recognised for their role as a supporting grandparent, or indeed you play a vital role and would like to nominate yourself, you have until 2 September 2011 to enter. Whether a parent, friend or grandparent, if you think they fit any of the five following categories, we’d love to hear from you. We’re looking for an amazing ‘Active Gran’ (with the finalists in this category exclusively voted for by RIAS customers through our website), ‘Fun Gran’, ‘Hero Gran’, ‘Glam Gran’ and ‘Grandad of the Year’. The winner of each of these categories will then be put forward for the coveted title of ‘Grandparent of the Year’ 2011.
The judging panel includes celebrity grandparent Janet Ellis, well-known broadcaster and grandmother to singer Sophie Ellis Bextor’s children; Chief Executive of charity Grandparents Plus, Denise Murphy; Chief Executive of Grandparents Association, Lynn Chesterman; RIAS’ Managing Director, Janet Connor; and the Editor of Yours Magazine, Valery McConnell. The panel will review all the nominations and decide on the winner of each category. These winners will then attend a makeover and photo shoot at the luxurious Park Lane Hilton Hotel, London on 7 October 2011. These influential people are very much looking forward to reading your entries!
The lucky overall winner of the ‘Grandparent of the Year’ 2011 Award will receive a £1,500 Thomas Cook holiday to reward them for their achievement, whilst the individual category winners will each receive £100 worth of M&S vouchers, all courtesy of the specialist insurance provider RIAS.
Janet Ellis, spokesperson for the awards, adds: “Being a grandparent is a very special role and I'm able to really enjoy my grandchildren without all the pressures of doing the hard bit – the parenting. I know it’s nice for Sophie to know that she can count on me if she needs a break from being mum, but I hope it’s nice for the boys, too, to have me around to provide some extra love, support and fun as they grow older.”

You must tell us in no more than 150 words, why you or the person you are entering deserves to win the Yours ‘Grandparent of the Year’ 2011. Don't forget to include your name, address, telephone number as well as the name and address of the person you are nominating. Please also include two photos of yourself or the person you are nominating. You must obtain permission from the person you are nominating.
