Title : Senior Project Manager

Job Purpose:

  • To lead with end-to-end delivery accountability, large scale business transformation and system improvement programmes of work across the RIAS business
  • To lead other project and programme management resource, and all business resources to deliver business solutions to agreed scope within the agreed budgetary and time constraints
  • To manage third party and internal resources to align all delivery capability required for the successful business deployment of change

Dimensions:
  • Direct reports of up to 5 or 6 project management resources, both directly line managing and matrix managing across the business
  • Budgetary responsibility for team and transformation programmes
Accountabilities:
  • To lead, through structured methods, major programmes of change across RIAS, incorporating multiple projects with consistent objectives and dependencies
  • To manage the major suppliers against the tight timescales and deliverables for the constituent parts of the programme, ensuring resources are balanced across all projects
  • To ensure that each project is understood and consistently communicated to stakeholders and to fully engage stakeholders (at all levels), to ensure that initiatives are delivered to time and specification with the full support of the business function(s) concerned.
  • To deliver high quality projects and change management initiatives within the scope of Business Transformation using formal project management tools and techniques.
  • Lead the team of project and programme managers, ensuring consistency in method, reporting and management of dependencies and costs across the Business Transformation project/programme management function
  • To identify risks and ensure they are communicated and managed as agreed with the programme sponsors.
  • To provide support and guidance to the programme sponsors and colleagues in general throughout the programme lifecycle ensuring that thorough consideration is given to all aspects of each initiative.
  • To act as an expert in matters relating to project and programme governance and control.
  • To deliver high quality project and programme reports and records ensuring each initiative, and the programmes as a whole, have a full audit trail.
  • To evaluate each project and programme upon completion and communicate and deploy learnings to improve future initiatives.
  • To act in an internal consultancy capacity when colleagues need support for local initiatives outside of the change management programme.
Essential Competencies:
  • Exceptional formal project/programme management experience covering full project lifecycle and critical task management methodology.
  • Exceptional planning / control and organisation skills.
  • Extensive experience of dealing with and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the business through first class inter-personal and communication styles.
  • An ability to manage multiple tasks and initiatives in parallel without compromising quality.
  • An ability to make balanced and commercially sound decisions within the context of a  projects’ strategic objectives.
  • Training in and/or certification in a recognised structured project management method such as Prince2
  • Used to working in a matrix management format across multiple business areas.
