RIAS and Flybe celebrate environmental excellence

Regularly commuting between offices in Belfast and Bournemouth is all in a day's work for RIAS Managing Director Janet Connor. However, choosing one preferred airline Janet Connor & Ken Harrower at Belfast City Airport to fly with between the UK offices, in line with the over 50s insurance provider's environmental policy, was anything but a routine decision.

"As an organisation we are strongly and resolutely committed to being environmentally friendly", explained Janet as she boarded a flight from Belfast City Airport. "Our company-wide commitment to raising and maintaining our environmental credentials extends to air travel. We ensure that we execute best green practice across all areas of our business. We selected Flybe as our preferred carrier because of its eco-labelling on aircraft, its low emission flights, and our complementary environmental and sustainability programmes. It really is a mutually beneficial relationship."

As well as Janet's own travel needs, a number of RIAS colleagues make the regular essential trips back and forth between the organisation's offices for business purposes.

Flybe Regional Sales Manager Ken Harrower, commented: "With the launch of the eco-label back in 2007, we took up the challenge to make Flybe as environmentally sensitive as possible, and to help bring pressure across the industry to reduce emissions by improving standards."

"Our eco-label initiative is designed to help consumers identify which type of aircraft or which type of route is the most sensitive choice to the environment. We believe that through the provision of information to consumers they will exercise choice, for example, deciding which journeys are necessary and making choices which have the least impact on their neighbourhood and the environment."

"As well as being a leading airline for business users, Flybe is aware that both business and leisure passengers are, more than ever, taking environmental issues into consideration. Flybe has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with RIAS and we appreciate their shared concern for environmental issues."
