The RIAS Award Winning Film Season for the over 50s

There’s a treat in store for more mature film fans this month as the RIAS sponsored Senior Screen at ODEON cinemas across the UK welcomes the over 50s to the cinema to see a special collection of top-rated films in its Award Winning Film Season.

Film fans will be able to watch The Valley of Ela h from Friday 11th April at their local ODEON cinema, the first of several critically acclaimed films to be shown during the RIAS Senior Screen Award Winning Film Season which runs from 11th April to 9th May 2008. The Valley of Elah was nominated for an Oscar in 2008 and won the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival in 2007. Starring Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron, the film tells the story of a career officer and his wife who try to find out what happened when their son disappears after a tour of duty in Iraq.

Other titles to be screened throughout the month-long film event include Juno , which won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, Oscar winning Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp, Bucket List , starring Jack Nicholson and No Country for Old Men which scooped 4 Oscars at this year’s ceremony, including the top awards for Best Director and Best Film. Tickets for all of these films will be available at the discounted Senior Screen rate available to anyone over the age of 50. Information leaflets on the whole programme will be available at participating ODEON cinemas. As regular Senior Screen film-goers will know, there will also be free tea, coffee and biscuits available in the foyer before each film begins.

“The Award Winning Film Season is designed to encourage the over 50s to take advantage of the regular weekly RIAS sponsored ODEON Senior Screen events,” says RIAS Managing Director Janet Connor. “At RIAS we are dedicated to delivering reassurance to our customers by offering products and services relevant to the needs of the over 50s, and as part of that awareness we are working with ODEON to deliver a number of other exciting, and specifically tailored, film events throughout 2008 which are designed to bring mature audiences back to the cinema on a regular basis.”
