The United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union dominates the daily news agenda, but it is hard for people to know whether they’ll be able to do certain things in the future. This article should help separate what’s certain from what’s unknown.
The UK formally left the EU on 31 January 2020 and entered a transition period. During this transition period, UK citizens can continue to visit and drive in Europe just as they did prior to Brexit. The transition period will run until the end of 2020.
Negotiations between Westminster and Brussels will continue throughout 2020 to agree new, ongoing arrangements. It is important to note that nothing has been formally agreed until all sides have approved of plans.
Please visit our dedicated Driving in Europe page for more information on what you may need to do after the transition period. We will update it as new arrangements are formally agreed.
