
What is Motor Legal Expenses cover?
Motor Legal Expenses is optional cover provided by the RAC that offers legal support and advice for a wide range of incidents.
This cover provides up to £100,000 of cover for legal costs as well as a 24/7 legal advice helpline which can provide advice on a range of private legal matters.
What is covered?
- Personal injury legal costs - to pursue compensation for you and your passengers after a road traffic accident that has been caused by the fault or negligence of a third party
- Recovering uninsured costs - after a non-fault accident (for example your motor insurance excess or other out of pocket expenses)
- Defence of motoring prosecutions - for example, a speeding ticket you want to dispute
- Pursuing contract disputes - relating to your car for example, if you have purchased a faulty car
- Vehicle cloning - if your vehicle’s identity is stolen you’ll be covered for costs to defend
- Database disputes - costs for disputes following false or incorrect information about you or your car on the Motor Insurance Database.
What is not covered
- Motoring offences related to drugs or alcohol, or where you are disqualified from driving or don't hold a licence
- Claims that don’t have at least a 51% chance of success
- Costs must be agreed before they are covered.
